WordPress Plugin to Optimize your Database

Another one of Joost de Valks plugins slips in here again.

The database you use in WordPress is called MYSQL and it is here that all the information is stored for your pages, posts, images and settings and whatnot. As you update and add and change things on your blog all this information is added and subtracted from the databse accordingly and as you can imagine this leaves it looking a little messy after some time as your not tidying up behind you as you go, rather your just editing the database as you need it with no thought for its structure (naughty naughty).

The consequence of this is that, as the database becomes more “messy”, it also finds it harder to access the information making your site slower and more sluggish for visitors.  A big no no!

What the Optimise Database plugin does it fix that at the click of a single button. Yep, one single click and you only have to click it once a month. Install it, activate it and hit Optimise Now to clean up the database and your done!

WordPress Media RSS Plugin

This little plugin has an incredibly important and powerful feature. What it does is allow the media, and by that I mean video, audio and images, to be included in your RSS feed.  The reason it is needed is because the RSS feeds should have media coded or tagged in a particular way so that they work in the required manner for the feed and this plugin meets that requirement, making your feed more complete and bypassing “broken” information when it arrives in subscribers inbox or RSS readers.

This feature will (as far as I know) become standard in the wordpress core system in the future but until that time this plugin will manage the issue and resolve it so until then use it!

Simple to install it also has a range of customisable features that do require some coding knowledge to implement but it is not essential to make the plugin function. Upload, install it and activate and your done.

WordPress Security Plugin Login Lockdown

Login lockdown is a plugin I only installed recently after considering the security of my blog because of a recent attack by hackers on all the wordpress blogs that had not updated to the latest stable and available version of wordpress.

The plugin effectively adds a barrier or security gate to the administration login page which helps protect against automated attacks from robots or malicious scripts who attempt to take control of your blog by a method of “brute force” password discovery.  Basically they hammer the login panel with an automatic system until they accidentally discover your login details.

Once the plugin is simple to active, and can be configured to suit your needs quite easily. Don’t be the one who gets caught out, protect yourself!
