Will Google plus KILL Facebook and will it crash and burn in terrible flames like Myspace and be sold for 50 cents?

In a bar, meeting strangers, chatting with the guy next to you. What could be more normal than that.  It aint normal if your names Mark Zuckerberg and you meet Tom, from MySpace…

He has a small chip on his shoulder, about some friends of his.

After all, he invented the “friends”. (love that line)

Mark gets to thinking about Facebook and whether Google Plus will do to him what he “did” to MySpace…

Genius.

Manage Facebook tabs and iframes with a wordpress plugin

Some of you may be aware that Facebook have been threatening/promising (depending on your point of view) to change their current setup , again, by removing the FBML (Face Book Markup Language) and instead reverting to the use of iframes.  this is for a few reasons that we dont really care about as what matters to use is:

  • Will it make life harder or easier
  • How much harder or easier
  • Can I do it myself without paying vast sums of money?

The answer is…maybe. But if it is difficult this rather cool wordpress plugin will help. Called the FaceBook Tab Manager it allows you to configure a tab for Facebook in WordPress and then copy and paste it into Facebook.  This should allow WordPress lovers a much more familiar and convenient way of managing a Facebook page (we hope!)

Heres how it looks :

Manage Facebook tabs and iframes with a wordpress plugin

And heres the official description:

The Facebook Tab Manager allows you to create landing pages and other types of content to be displayed within Facebook, particularly within the tabs that appear on Facebook business pages and pages for other types of organizations. This provides a way of putting more interesting layouts and functionality into your Facebook pages, without the need to get too deep into fancy programming.

The Facebook Tab Manager was specifically designed to take advantage of a recent Facebook page redesign that added support for iframe tabs on Facebook pages. Optionally, you can now also specify content to be displayed on an associated canvas page.

Tab content can include any WordPress content, including output from Shortcodes and other plugin functions.

Nice one!

Facebook profile and pages navigation update

For anyone who’s missed it then they should check out their FaceBook profile or pages to see the changes being introduced.  Hopefully it will make things in FaceBook a little easier to navigate as currently, I keep getting lost…

FaceBooks notification reads:

Profile and Page Roadmap Update

We announced plans last October to remove application boxes and application info sections as well as reduce the width of application tabs to optimize for the new profile and Facebook Pages format. We will be moving forward with these changes the week of August 23 and want to help you understand what to expect.

Based on feedback from developers, we have committed to the following plans to ensure a smooth transition:

  • Boxes. We will notify users via messaging in profile boxes and in the Help Center that the “Boxes” tab, boxes on profiles and Pages, and application info sections will be going away.
  • Application Tabs. Next week, we will give Page admins the ability to preview their custom tabs in the new 520 pixel width so they can modify their layouts as needed. All profile and Page tabs will be resized automatically beginning the week of August 23.

These updates are designed to simplify navigation for users, reduce complexity for developers, and enable us to build the next generation of tools for growing your business with Facebook. Subscribe to the developer blog to learn about our new roadmap in the coming weeks.

Fran, a Platform product marketing manager, is busy updating the roadmap.
