WordPress Debug Queries plugin

This debug plugin is not for the average user in any sense of the word.**Advanced Users only**

The plugin is perfect for WordPress developers, WordPress Plugin and theme developers as well as site administrators exclusively. They use the debugging tool in the test stages to maximise the speed and efficiency of their work, helping the blog load faster (hopefully) and reducing errors when it is finally released. Not for the untrained, and definitely not for the average user, it’s still important to be aware that it exists ifyou decide to contract any of the services mentioned from a third party in the future .

WordPress Comment Redirect and Thank You Notes Plugin

Yet another of Joost de Valks handy plugins, this one is a great tool for adding a little extra to your blog and helping visitors who take the time to comment feel that bit more welcome.

By installing the plugin, you can set it to direct first time commenters to a specific page, with a thank you message, or to any other page of your choosing in or outside of your site.  The great part about this is the extra value it adds to the commenter’s experience in exchange for taking the time and effort to leave their thoughts and respond to the post content.

Not everyone has or takes the time. But, by making sure you thank them for the effort, it can leave a lasting impression and personalise the site for the visitor, while encouraging continued interaction and return visits.

There is a hitch, of course (damn, isnt there always?).

If you’re using the DisQus Comment Plugin instead of your default template plugin, the comment redirect plugin will NOT work.  This is disappointing because of the value of the plugin. I guess it’s the usual story of balancing what you want with what you need.

WordPress Navigation with Breadcrumbs Plugin

Another one from Joost de Valk, this little plugin is great if your site’s theme doesn’t have breadcrumbs installed.  Not sure what breadcrumbs are?

Yoast describes them as :

Breadcrumbs are the links, usually above the title post, that look like “Home > Articles > WordPress SEO”. They are good for two things:

  • They allow your users to easily navigate your site.
  • They allow search engines to determine the structure of your site more easily.

As you can guess they are pretty important but this plugin is a backup in case your theme hasn’t already got them included.  It does take a little messing with the theme files, but the support details are excellent on the plugin page, so they should guide you through.
