Would you poke them in real life?

People have a tendency to forget that the common sense and the normal etiquette used in everyday life applies online in exactly the same way. Why do we approach it so differently?

What if you tried the same methods so many typically employ online to the real world? Would you do it?

I didn’t think so!

But this guy did and it’s a great example of how ridiculous it comes across to the unfortunate recipients.

Think about what you do online, don’t just follow the herd. Try and consider what you do from another’s perspective and how you would react if it was you.

Watch and enjoy!

Its the little surprises on twitter that make a big difference

Its the little things that matter, the unexpected things that count and that last in your mind and this is some thing I wont forget in a hurry.  Having spoke to Susan Cooper from Buzz Edition on twitter on many occasions, some time had passed since we last had the opportunity to have a chat or help each other out.

Its the little surprises on twitter that make a big difference

However that doesn’t stop twitter working its magic and having seen a request tweeted from Susan (@buzzedition) to help her find an interview of an artist Lou D Philips, (@loudphilips). Heres what Susan said originally.

“Can anyone recall the interview done with @LouDPhillips that showcased his painting? Even Lou himself can’t find it and I want it!”

What happened Next

I took a few seconds to do a quick search and see if I could find what she wanted and I think I found the wrong Lou D Phillips and I sent her the wrong interview.  That didn’t matter.  The thought was appreciated and it was to my complete surprise that I got tweet a few minutes later from Susan saying:

#MeetSomeoneNew BTW this is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet on twitter … meet my dear friend —-> @justinparks
(http://twitter.com/BuzzEdition/status/22645968081)

That tweet went out to a staggering 64,000 people who follow Buzz Edition and its probably the nicest thing anyone has said to me on twitter.

The little things

This wasn’t expected or asked for and this, I guess, added to the significance of this small but important gesture for me. Its good to remember that its the little things that matter as they can mean big things when given freely.

Thanks Susan, you made my day!

Social Bookmarking Syndication in one simple step

Most of us have built up a portfolio of different social bookmarking profiles as we surf the web and if your engaged with these communities then you want to be letting them know what your doing and what you currently find interesting.

Its not fun though, when you have to go through each site, login and then copy and paste that info, so most of us wont bother as its to much of a time sink and a distraction.  Instead we concentrate on just a select few and while these may be beneficial it could also mean your missing out on potentially profitable relationships and networking opportunities through omission.

Never fear through!  As always some smart Alec has had the very same problem and then decided to address it themselves, so let me present you with the two options you have, one paid for and one for free.

Ping.fm – Make Updating your Social Networks a Snap

Social Bookmarking Syndication in one simple stepPing.fm has been around a long time and of course, the biggest advantage it has, is that its FREE.

That’s why we love it.  It covers a wide range of different social networks and since its free then you can scoot on over and check it out now.

Here is a convenient little link to ping.fm for ya.

Enjoy!

Only Wire – Automated Content Bookmarking

Social Bookmarking Syndication in one simple stepOnly Wire is pretty much the same as ping.fm except that it is NOT Free. Well, kind of.  There is a free version that is supported with adverts, so that might be a little annoying.

It covers about 39 different social networks and I would say, if your a business, then this would be the solution for you.

Hope they come in useful.
